See Sew What? Inc. in action

Ivete Sangalo

Description:  Designer Bruce Rodgers of Tribe Design challenged us with this incredible sculptural billowing border set and magical sniffer drape reveal. The materials all needed to be light weight but be strong enough to hold some form when applied to the trusses. In the case of the sniffer reveals the challenge was to make over 5000 square feet of fabric disappear before the audience’s very eyes. Voila – a motorized sniffer system form industry giants SGPS was the answer to our draperies needs.

A sniffer (aka snifter) effect is produced when a large drapery element sewn from a light weight and slick material is “magically” pulled up into hidden 12” diameter tubes in the rig of the lighting grid. This effect can be produced with ropes and pulleys, or more modern methodologies including fast speed motors. It is a combination effect, in that the drapes must be “kabukied” first from solenoids before they can then be extracted up into the grid. The effect of the kabuki / sniffer combo is breathtaking!

Featured Product: Silver Black Glimmerine
Location: Three downstage sniffer drapes give dramatic opening effect and reveal.
